Pray, Care, Share, Work, & Disciple

The ideas below are given as suggestions for how we can be active together, in working with Jesus every day in our jobs and life, as well as sharing Him with others. Please look over the list and incorporate ones that feel most natural for you.
  • Make a list of three or more people in your workplace who you will commit to praying for on a daily basis.
  • If someone comes to you with a need, offer to pray for and with them.
  • Put together a prayer group to pray for the people in your company or department.
  • If you know of people who claim that they don’t believe in Jesus, pray for them everyday that God would remove the strongholds in their minds that block them from believing.
  • Pray that you would have the strength to live a lifestyle that would cause those around you to ask “what is different about you?”.
  • WARNING: Don’t pray with your co-workers or employees in the morning and then scream at them in the afternoon… They won’t believe that your prayer is real.
  • Do a random act of kindness for each person on your prayer list each week.
  • Open the door for them with a smile on your face.
  • Get a coffee or water for them when you get yours.
  • Stop showing anger when you are frustrated with them.
  • Be vulnerable and share you story if they are hurting in an area that you have overcome.
  • Help someone finish a task that they are behind on without expecting anything in return. (Or, offer to get their lunch so they can get caught up.)
  • Do enough for others that they would ask you, “Why do you do these things for me?” or “Why do you love me this way?” or “What is different about you?” (It is very easy to open the door to the Holy Spirit to lead someone to Jesus when they are asking for it.)
  • If you are aware of a need in the person’s family, ask how you can help.
  • At least once per month, invite at least one of these three people to an activity outside of your workplace (ex. lunch, coffee, etc.).
  • Ask them to share their story with you. Share your time, and don’t make it about you. Make it about them. If something in your story helps them, share it.
  • If the door is open, share how you made it to where you are in your story. Gently tell them how Jesus helped you.
  • Share the story of how His grace has helped you. (Be sure that they can see that in your life, or they probably won’t believe the story.)
  • If you are successful in the Care part of the vision, be prepared to share about Jesus when they ask you one of the questions in the Care portion above.
  • If someone needs food, offer to get it for them. Or, share yours.
  • Share your coffee.
  • Share your lunch.
  • If you do these things, be ready to share the gospel.
  • Sharing the Gospel is as easy as sharing your own story, sharing the Gospel, and asking if they already have done this or would like to do so. You may want to share the “big picture” of the bible from God’s plan in Creation, to the Fall, to Redemption, to Restoration with Him eternally, and the role of personal salvation in this “big picture”.
  • When talking about their personal salvation in Jesus by grace through faith alone, share Bible verses with them (such as John 3:16, Rom 3:23, Rom 5:8, Rom 6:23, Rom 10:8-10, etc) and ask if they have already or would like to pray to receive Jesus as Lord and Savior. Feel free to use whatever evangelistic resources are most helpful as you share with others.
  • For specific evangelism resources, please ask someone in your church and/or a ministry that you are connected with.
  • If you would like help with this, ask a Christian friend and/or someone in your church to help you.
  • As you pray, care and share, know that your ACTUAL work is just as important as your praying, caring, and sharing.
  • The ethics and excellence of your work are important for your Christian witness AND your actual work itself is part of God’s overall mission in the world.
  • While your work IS an important platform for praying, caring, and sharing, IT IS MORE THAN SIMPLY A PLATFORM.. Know that 100% of your work is work with God and for God, reflective of our original job description given in Genesis 1:28, which includes being a steward of all the time, talents, and resources that God has given you, regardless of whether you work in business, education, government, arts, religion, family, etc.
  • Know that every aspect of your work is part of your worship and sacrifice to God. Learn more about the Hebrew word AVODAH. (Gen 2:15, Rom 12:1-2.)
  • Know that your work is part of God’s overall economy in the world, is interdependent with the work of others, and should have a goal of flourishing of society for God’s glory.
  • Commit 100% of your work to God every day, as both a part of His economy and as a witness to his redemptive power.
  • Encourage others in this “whole life stewardship” and recognition of 100% of work with God and for God.
  • As God leads you, ask a Christian who is more mature than you to disciple you.
  • As God leads you, ask a few people you know if you can share a few discipleship points with them. (Choose biblical discipleship material your church or ministry relationships suggest or consider using the “Basic Points of Discipleship” provided by the Love2020 Workplace Initiative as a starting point.)
  • Disciple leaders for as long as you and they feel appropriate, and encourage them to disciple others. Consider working with them until they have discipled others who have discipled others. (2 Timothy 2:2)
  • Discipleship can take many forms, but it is rooted in God’s command to “multiply” in Genesis 1:28 and in Jesus’ command to “teach all I have commanded you” in the Great Commission given in Matt 28:18-20. You will only have a part in someone’s overall discipleship, but don’t take this lightly, as each part is important. Your part may be a few conversations, a few meetings, a few months, or a few years. God will use all of this time in their life and yours.

Love2020 Workplace Strategies

We seek to work with others in the Body of Christ to...

  • Communicate the need for workplace Christians to Pray, Care, Share, Work, Disciple in as many forms as possible, with as many partners as possible.
  • Ask individuals to Commit to Pray, Care, Share, Work, Disciple by signing up HERE. This means to make a list of 5+ people and commit to regularly PRAY for, CARE for, and SHARE with them (and others as the Lord leads) VERY INENTIONALLY as you understand ALL of your WORK is for God, and as you DISCIPLE others toward a 100% life for Jesus.
  • To encourage LABOR DAY and LABOR DAY WEEK (before and/or after) to be utilized as a time of emphasis for Praying, Caring, Sharing, Working, & Discipling.
  • To encourage conversations and gatherings between pastors and workplace leaders on Pray-Care-Share-Work-Disciple principles (whether formally linked to Love2020 Workplace Initiative or not).
